MBA. Part3. Preparation for the tests

Basically there two tests – GMAT and TOEFL. There is nothing hard with the TOEFL. Just buy the official guide. Crack it and you are ready. GMAT is another pair of shoes! Allocate at least 6 months to get ready. Although my advice not less then 12! I heard some crazy stories that it took some people two years to pass the test. I could not believe that. I was sure I was smart enough to pass it in three months. I was so wrong!!! Yes, it’s too complicated. GMAT will take a lot of time and efforts. GMAT is hell! It will swallow you. It will destroy your free time completely. Just be ready to devote much efforts to it. My list of important things to do to get ready for the GMAT prep:
1) sign up for GMAT basics course in your city – this will give you a basic idea of what this is. Usually such courses are 4-8 week long. I went to MBA Strategy courses in Kiev http://www.mbastrategy.ua They are excellent experts in preparation and admission consulting. If you are in Ukraine or Russia, I highly recommend to call these guys.
2) after you pass the group course, you will understand your weaknesses. The next step would be to work individually. Buy the full set of official guide books – latest edition. I also bought Kaplan books and used Manhattan GMAT – 8 books set. Read the books and do the assignments. My weak point was critical reasoning. That’s why I also read GMAT Critical Reasoning Bible.
3) if you have some troubles with understanding some concepts while you do the individual study plan, you should take the Skype-classes with a consultant and address the questions
4) sign up for online service like GoGMAT. Download an iOS app with a thousand prep questions and answer explanations. Online platform is a very good option to track your success.

There is no single answer to the question of what’s the best way to beat GMAT. The test was designed by very smart people. The test is changing and constantly evolving. You should start the journey and find your own way to pass it. You need a lot of patience and do not give up!

My daughter goes to school

children g to schoolIt seems that my daughter was born just a moment ago. It turned, however, that already 6.5 years passed. She goes to school this fall! I take this seriously. I myself was an academic addict. My daughter is a smart one. Not just because she is the best one for me as a father. I try to be unbiased – she is cool I am very proud of her.

This week we had a first interview to Intellect Lyceum, one of the best elementary schools in Ukraine. It is so reputed because of the academic faculty. Besides graduates of this school receive a Cambridge diploma as well, which is cool!

So we had an interview this week. My wife and I worried a lot. Mariia seemed to be calm and confident. everything went well. At least I hope so. We are waiting for the result on Monday afternoon. Only then I will be able to tell if it went well, or not.

Parents of the whole world are proud of their children on September 1. But the images differ from country to country. I upload here some images of September 1 in Ukraine

My new project – Valley Wizard Corporation

It happened! We launched it! At last!!! I am so happy to announce that a project once inspired and supported by my beloved wife Hanna was launched. Valley Wizard Corporation, an innovative inbound marketing agency incorporated in Delaware, headquartered in San Francisco, the heart of Silicon Valley and one of the most lovely cities on the planet.

I invite you all to the web-site www.valleywizard.com Please spread the word and tell everyone to sign up to the blog and be update pd on everything new we are going to launch.

I thought a lot about launching my own company, but something interfered me all the time. I had enough job offers and I was ok in my own comfort zone. However the first red flag appeared in 2008 with the world financial collapse. Later on I was lucky to live in San Francisco during my MBA and I was a frequent guest in Silicon Valley. I got to know a lot of intelligent people and I was blown away with the spirit of freedom and entrepreneurship. I came back to Ukraine and witnessed the collapse of the ruling party, President resignation and complete relaunch of power. This signaled that even at first sight the most powerful and wealthy may fall. We truly live in turbulent and volatile times. Recalling Taleb’s Antifragile concept – entrepreneurs are antifragileby nature. Guess it’s worth the shot.

The new journey started.

Motorcycle riding

While still at school I became crazy about motorcycles. In Ukraine we can get driver’s license at 16. I was getting ready to get one and to buy a motorcycle. Actually as a schoolboy the huber of motorcycles available at that time in Ukraine for a student with a small budget was limited. My ultimate dream was 125cm3 Minsk from Belarus.

My friend had a far better option – 350cm3 Jawa

I had some savings and was about to spend them on Minsk as Jawa was expensive and the supply was limited. But something changed in my plans and I postponed the idea to buy a motorcycle until now.

Imagine my surprise when I googled Minsk and found these motorcycles

But even more changes happened in my life – my wife Hanna became obsessed with motorcycles. She was the first one to go and the the motorcycle driving license. So, she is the first mover in our family and I am a fast follower. In December 2013 when Hanna had a birthday I decide to give her a good memorable present – KTM Duke 390

This is an awesome motorcycle. We have tons of enjoyment riding it in the streets of Kiev. This year we have early spring and we are lucky to spend some evening every week riding this magnificent KTM Duke. I highly recommend KTM as a motorcycle brand.
